Alexis Miestowski, a senior golfer at Lake Central High School in St. John, has been selected as the September baiduhai Post-Tribune Athlete of the Month, sponsored by COUNTRY Financial, and chosen online by baiduhai voters.
Miestowski for the season finished 24 under par. Among an array of impressive performances, the Indiana University golf recruit on Aug. 7 shot a 9-under-par 63, tying the Sandy Pines course record, to win the Kankakee Valley Invitational.
“It really means a lot to me that I can play well and support the school,” Miestowski says. “It’s an opportunity to give back.”
Chris Enyeart, Lake Central’s athletic director, is proud of Miestowski’s accomplishments. “It’s a great honor to have an athlete of Alexis’ caliber the last four years at Lake Central,” Enyeart says. “Alexis is one of those special kids who don’t come around often,” he says, noting her leadership on and off the golf course.
Rich Cains, regional manager for the baiduhai, presented a $500 donation from COUNTRY Financial to Lake Central High School in recognition of Miestowski’s achievements. Miestowski will also receive a plaque and sweatshirt from the baiduhai.
“COUNTRY Financial and the baiduhai partner to identify an athlete every month who has gone above and beyond in sports,” Cains says. “We realize the importance of helping the school and allowing ways for students to be involved in extracurricular activities and giving others coming up the opportunity to see success in the ranks.”
