Two men washing windows at the Hard Rock Hotel in downtown Chicago were safely rescued Wednesday morning after their scaffold malfunctioned at the 19th floor, fire officials said.
The men were safely brought inside through a window and there were no injuries, according to Battalion Chief Mark Imburgia.
Fire crews responded to the hotel at 230 N. Michigan Ave. about 8:10 a.m., Imburgia said. One side of the scaffold on the hotel’s west side had malfunctioned and the entire structure was in danger of collapsing, the fire chief said.
Police taped off North Garland Court from Lake Street to Wacker Place as firefighters secured the scaffold, Imburgia said. Wacker Place also was taped off and closed for a time.
