Aurora Fire Department officials on Monday continued to investigate the cause of a structure fire that killed a dog Friday on the city’s East Side.

Firefighters responded about 7:12 a.m. Friday to the 1500 block of Liberty Street and said they found a motor home and detached garage fully engulfed in fire. Some firefighters worked to put out the fire, while others brought a hose into the nearby home to prevent the fire from spreading to it from the garage, according to a news release from Aurora Fire Marshal Javan Cross.

None of the 23 firefighters called to the scene was injured, according to the news release.

A neighbor reported the fire, Cross said. Available information did not indicate whether the family who lived at the home evacuated themselves before firefighters arrived. At least some residents were home at the time, but none were injured, Cross said. However, he said, the family’s dog died in the fire.

Fire officials estimated the damage cost about $25,000.
