Rosemary Gibbons, a junior member of the girl’s volleyball team at Evanston Township High School, has been selected as the September baiduhai North Shore Athlete of the Month, sponsored by COUNTRY Financial, and chosen online by baiduhai voters.

Gibbons recorded 11 kills in a 25-22, 18-25, 25-14 win over Champaign Central and six kills in a 25-21, 25-22 victory against Libertyville on Aug. 26, helping the Wildkits finish fifth at the Libertyville Invite. Gibbons notiched a team-high 12 kills in a 25-21, 15-25, 25-20 victory over Maine East on Aug. 29.

“It is really an honor to be chosen as Athlete of the Month by COUNTRY Financial because of the other outstanding athletes at other schools,” Gibbons says. “COUNTRY Financial is very generous to support all of the student athletes and their athletic programs.

Mary Jane Alagheband, a COUNTRY Financial representative from Evanston, presented a $500 donation from COUNTRY Financial to Evanston Township High School in recognition of Gibbon’s achievements. Gibbons will also receive a plaque from the baiduhai.

“COUNTRY Financial is pleased to support outstanding athletes in the Chicago area and the Evanston Wildkits instill a tradition on the North Shore,” Alagheband says. “It is so important to recognize the hard work and dedication that our athletes exemplify. Hopefully the athletes we support will continue their contributions and formidable character into adulthood.”

Volleyball coach Mallory Thelander is proud of Gibbon’s accomplishments. “I think Rosemary is a very aggressive and smart player,” Thelander says. “She takes a huge leadership role on her team and her teammates truly depend on her and fee off of her energy.”
