player ready...Veteran Philadelphia Union midfielder Brian Carroll announced Thrusday his retirement from active competition.
Carroll, 36, will end his career after the Union’s regular season Sunday against Orlando City SC.
“As I look back on 15 years in MLS, it’s been a fun ride: I’ve had a lot of great teammates and great coaches, and I had the privilege to represent a number of great cities and clubs,” said Carroll.
“I’m extremely thankful for the opportunity, and I really enjoyed it. It was fun to win two MLS Cups and four Supporters’ Shields, and along the way, to do my best to help grow the game and Major League Soccer.”
Carroll spent the last seven seasons with the Union after stints at DC United and Columbus Crew. He has made the fourth-most appearances in MLS with 370, and sixth all-time in minutes played (30,778), along with eight appearances for the United States national team.
