Aamir Burgie, a junior football player at St. Joseph High School in Westchester, has been selected as the September baiduhai The Doings Athlete of the Month, sponsored by COUNTRY Financial, and chosen online by baiduhai voters.

Burgie plays running back/corner back for St. Joseph. He scored St. Joseph’s only touchdown in a season-opening loss to Elmwood Park. Burgie returned a punt for a touchdown in the second quarter.

“Getting this honor means a lot,” Burgie says. “It was a great opportunity to even be nominated as one of the athletes of the month. I want to say congrats to the other two competitors that I had, and I wish them great luck on their season. I want to thank everybody, thank my team, my mom, everybody around me that’s given me great support.”

Burgie’s mother, Dena Davis, says, “I am beyond proud. He’s a hard worker. I’m not surprised. He’s a hard worker and I always tell him that hard work pays off, and this is just the beginning for him.”

Tony Munno, a COUNTRY Financial representative in Countryside, presented a $500 donation from COUNTRY Financial to St. Joseph High School in recognition of Burgie’s achievements. Burgie will also receive a plaque and sweatshirt from the baiduhai.

“It’s really important for COUNTRY to be part of the community, and this is really part of the community,” Munno says. “High school athletics is ingrained in people’s communities. It’s wonderful to come out here and present these checks and get to meet the athletes and their parents and the school officials. I enjoy doing it.”
