Midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger will be absent from the Chicago Fire’s regular season finale Sunday against the Houston Dynamo.

Schweinsteiger, 33, made the announcement to reporters at Wednesday’s practice session. He also was out of Sunday’s 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Union as he continues to recover from a thigh injury.

The German said he hopes to be ready to return for Chicago’s first playoff match. The Fire currently sit in third place in the Eastern Conference, with its playoff spot already secured.
