Cagliari announced the appointment of Uruguayan Diego Lopez as manager, replacing Massimo Rastelli, who was sacked Tuesday.

“Cagliari Calcio announces that it has entrusted the technical guidance of the first team to Diego Lopez,” the club confirmed in a statement.

“Lopez was a true standard bearer of Cagliari, where he was appreciated not only for his technical and human qualities, but also because of his strong attachment to Sardinia.”

Lopez first managed the Isolani in the 2013-2014 season before leading Bologna and, most recently, Palermo in 2015.

Cagliari sit in 14th place in Serie A, looking to end a four-match losing streak. Lopez’s debut is set for Sunday in the Olimpico against Lazio.
