player ready...DC United goalkeeper Bill Hamid will not return to the club after his contract expires at the end of the current MLS season.
Hamid, 26, made the announcement in an interview with the Washington Post, while declining to reveal his next career move.
“I want to push myself and see how far I can go because I know I have the work ethic and the hunger to take myself very far in this game. I know I can make it to the next level,” said Hamid.
“I am extremely excited for what’s next. It’s a big opportunity. It’s a big steppingstone to what can come later on in my career.”
The Washington Post also reports the club and Hamid had on-and-off negotiations throughout the season, turning down a guaranteed deal for three years at an estimated $2.1 million.
Hamid leaves after spending his entire professional tenure with DC United, starting in 2009. He hold club records for starts (148) and shutouts (49), and earned MLS Goalkeeper of the Year honors in 2014.
