Northbrook police charged a Lindenhurst man with trying to videotape under the skirt of a grocery-store shopper.

Christopher P. Krol, 25, was charged with disorderly conduct and attempted unauthorized video recording, a Class A misdemeanor under Illinois law. Convictions for such Class A misdemeanors may include a year in jail and fines of $2,500, according to state law.

On Sept. 19, a woman called police from Mariano’s, 784 Skokie Blvd., complaining that a man seemed to be videotaping her from below, Northbrook Police Department Deputy Chief Scott Dunham said. He said officers were able to find the man responsible, and later confirm his activity through store security video.

Krol, of the 400 block of South Thornwood Drive, turned himself in to police Oct. 6, police said.

Cheryl Fayne-Depersio, a spokeswoman for the village of Northbrook, said investigators have no indication that the crime was a repeat offense. Krol was released on a $1,500 recognizance bond and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 30.

Under Illinois law, “It is unlawful for any person to knowingly make a video record or transmit live video of another person under or through the clothing worn by that other person for the purpose of viewing the body of or the undergarments worn by that other person without that person’s consent.”
