A man who suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the torso in an attack in the Austin neighborhood last week has been identified by authorities.

Brian Cheek was shot about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday in the 1000 block of North Long Avenue, where he was pronounced dead minutes later by paramedics at 6:22 p.m. Cheek lived in the 6900 block of West Armitage Avenue.

Police were called to the scene following 911 calls regarding gunfire and found Cheek unresponsive in a gangway.

No one was in custody following the shooting. Updated information wasn’t immediately available Tuesday.

Cheek was the first of two men shot to death Wednesday night in the Austin neighborhood. About 6:45 p.m. that day, Antonio Moore, 33, was fatally shot in the 1400 block of North Leclaire Avenue, near LaFollette Park and only blocks from where Cheek was shot.
