The Texan side had listed Michael Barrios in the starting lineup an hour prior to the match, but requested Barrios be moved to the list of substitutes and replaced by Tesho Akindele 15 minutes before kickoff.
The referee crew allowed the change, despite such change behind prohibited, as MLS rules dictate a player removed from the starting lineup 60 minutes before kickoff can not participate in the match, except for goalkeepers.
Barrios entered the match in the 84th minute as a substitute despite being inelegible, as allowed by the referee crew.
“The referee crew’s administrative error and decision to place Michael Barrios on the official match roster was carefully considered while making the decision to sanction FC Dallas for this rule violation,” said MLS Deputy Commissioner Mark Abbott.
“However, all of our clubs are aware of game day roster rules and FC Dallas should have removed Barrios from the official match roster.”
