Bayern Munich have officially announced Jupp Heynckes as new manager through the end of the current season.
“Between Jupp Heynckes and Bayern, there is a great deal of trust. The conversations that Uli Hoeness, Hasan Salihamid ic and I have now led, have also shown this again,” said Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in a statement released by the club.
“We are very grateful to Jupp for being our manager. He is the ideal coach for Bayern at the moment.”
Heynckes, 72, will take over the Bavarian side for a fourth time, last managing the team from 2011 to 2013, winning the Bundesliga, the German Cup, and the UEFA Champions League.
“I would not have returned to any other club in the world, but FC Bayern München is a love affair for me,” said Heynckes in the statement. “I am very much looking forward to this challenge.”
Bayern currently sits in second place in Bundesliga, five points behind leader Borussia Dortmund.
