Atlanta United striker Josef Martinez was selected MLS Player of the Month for the month of September, the club announced Thursday.

Martinez, 24, finished September with nine goals, including two hat tricks that led Atlanta to clinch a playoff spot in its first season in the league.

The Venezuelan becomes the only player to win the award twice, after receiving the award in March. Martinez has totaled 18 goals in 18 matches, sitting in fourth place in the goalscorer table, three behind leader Nemanja Nikolic of the Chicago Fire.
