Argentinian midfielder Ignacio Piatti and Montreal Impact have come to terms on an extension deal after June 2018.

“The Montreal Impact announced on Thursday that the club has reached an agreement with Argentine midfielder and Designated Player Ignacio Piatti to extend his stay with the Impact after June 2018,” the club announced in a statement.

The 32-year-old’s contract was set to expire at the end of the year. MLS club will hold a press conference during the October international break regarding the extension.

“We are very excited that Nacho has decided to stay in Montreal,” said Impact president Joey Saputo. “He is a world-class player who belongs among the league’s elite. Our supporters will have the opportunity to continue to enjoy his great qualities, which will help us reach our objectives.”

Piatti is Montreal’s all-time leading scorer with 56, and second all-time in assists with 30 since joining the Canadian side in 2014 from Argentinian club San Lorenzo.

“My family and I are very happy with this agreement,” said Piatti in the statement. “I wanted to stay in Montreal, with a club, a city and fans that I appreciate immensely.”
