Lincolnwood officials announced that new Union Pacific Trailhead Parking Lot officially earlier this month.
The parking lot is located behind Lincolnwood’s Public Works Department building at Lunt and Morse avenues. The new lot contains 121parking spaces, including five handicapped spaces, according to a village news release.
The estimated construction cost for the project was $950,000, and was paid for with funds from the Northeast Industrial TIF District, according to the village’s website.
The new parking lot provides two-way access on Morse Avenue and Central Park Avenue, with one-way access entering the lot from Lunt Avenue. It is intended to serve patrons of area businesses and those who use the nearby bicycle path, according to village officials.
Mayor Barry Bass and Lincolnwood Chamber of Commerce President Damien Kardaras addressed more than 30 attendees about the addition of the parking lot during a ceremony unveiling the new space, according to a news release.
“The lot embraces an environmentally sustainable means of stormwater management,” said Public Works Director Andrew Letson. “With the installation of permeable pavers in the southern half of the lot, water is able to percolate into the ground rather than entering the village’s sewer system.”
According to the village website, the Village Board considered the possibility of constructing a public parking lot in the Northeast Industrial Business District in 2013. The board determined at the time that the ideal location would be on the Union Pacific Railroad right-of-way the village was at the time negotiating to purchase.
