The popular marina, bar and restaurant famous for its docks where visitors can feed the hungry tarpon appeared to sustain extensive damage during the storm.
Images captured in the aftermath show wooden debris strewn around the property. Robbie’s docks were also destroyed: bent wooden posts and waterlogged boats littered the water. Meanwhile, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration satellite images taken after the storm also showed various debris, fallen trees and overturned boats around the main building.
As of Wednesday, a team of employees were already cleaning up and re-building at Robbie’s, clearing out seaweed that flooded into the bar during the storm. Historic, slightly damaged photos of customers holding big catches were also left to dry out on the countertops.
“The first thing we want to do is get the tarpon back,” Robbie’s general manager Cailin Reckwerdt said of the hundreds of big fish that customers were able to hand-feed from the wooden docks. “The docks are all gone, and the fish went to deep water. But they’ll be back.” Reckwerdt also said that Irma’s powerful winds blew away about $500 of money stapled on the walls of the popular restaurant.
