The Vancouver Whitecaps announced the acquisition of American centre back Danny Barbir to a contract with United Soccer League affiliate Whitecaps FC 2 for the rest of the 2017 season.
“Danny is a big, strong young centre back who has experience in a highly competitive environment in England,” said Whitecaps FC 2 head coach Rich Fagan.
“We’ll continue to push him and evaluate him during the final stretch of our USL season.”
Barbir, 19, spent the last three seasons with Premier League side West Bromwich Albion, making 16 appearances and scoring one goal for its Under-23 and Under-21 squads.
The defender also gained experience with the Stoke City and Manchester City academies in England, and has made appearances for the United States Under-17 national team, including two caps during the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
