Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

For three hours last Labor Day, Lizzie Kaboski wore a red cape, a white shirt reading “Save Northbrook,” white leggings, red shoes and red hair bows. She had been hired by “Save” organization leader Julie Gibson Lay, a former ad agency exec, to bring attention to their (soon-to-be successful) effort to stop the proposed Heritage Woods assisted living center. Kaboski, 17, in her fourth year in Barrington High School’s theater program, along with fellow students Liam Boyle and Greg Myron, staged skits to entertain shoppers. The costume “felt ridiculous at the time, but that’s what made it fun.”

Q: Where did you grow up?

A: I grew up in Barrington, Illinois.

Q: As a child what did you want to be when you grow up?

A: I wanted to be a singer. I’m not going to pursue it in college, (but) I want to try to keep it in my life.

Q: Do you have any pets?

A: I have a dog, Buddy. He is 14 years old, soon to be 15. He’s blind and deaf and he wears diapers. He’s very sweet, and I grew up with him.

Q: What’s your favorite restaurant?

A: I hate to say this: California Pizza Kitchen (20502 N. Rand Road, Deer Park). I thoroughly enjoy their pizzas.

Q: If you could be on any reality show which one?

A: ‘Project Runway.’ I’m very into fashion, and I love clothes. I use a sewing machine. Also, I’m a big fan of Heidi Klum.

Q: Tell me something about yourself that most people don’t know.

A: I’ve died my hair about four colors. Cherry red … purple, pink. I am naturally dirty blond … and my holy grail color is platinum blond, which it is right now.

Q: If you could travel anywhere where would you go?

A: It would probably be France, just travel the whole country. I took French in high school, and there’s nowhere to use it.

Q: Do you have any pet peeves?

A: I hate it when people don’t tell the truth. White lie or a lie about their entire existence, I can’t stand it.

Q: What’s your favorite charity?

A: I do volunteer work for my church (Saint Anne Catholic Community, Barrington, where she met Lay) for Project Hope. It aids a lot of families in our area.

Q: Words of wisdom?

A: I have this quote as my computer background: ‘Happiness is not the absence of problems. It’s the ability to deal with them.’
