A man told police he was robbed at gunpoint Monday night in the parking lot of a St. Charles apartment complex.

St. Charles police said they’re looking for a suspect in the armed robbery of a 42-year-old man about 9:53 p.m. Monday outside the Fox Run Apartments on the 100 block of Walnut Drive.

The man said he was walking to his car when the robber, holding a silver semi-automatic handgun, approached and demanded his wallet, according to a news release from St. Charles Police Deputy Chief David Kintz.

The man gave the robber his wallet and was not injured, police said.

The robber, described as a 25-year-old black male, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and of medium build, was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood up and blue jeans, according to police.

After obtaining the wallet, he ran away east on Walnut Street, where residents down the block, near the intersecting 18th Street, reported seeing someone matching his description running eastbound in front of their house, Kintz said.

Officers, along with a police dog from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, responded but did not find the robber, according to police.
