An Aurora man has been charged with sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl he knew about five years ago, when he was 21.

Now 26, Jacob T. Browning, of the 200 block of Fourth Street, is charged with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault, a class X felony. The alleged assault took place in 2011 to 2012 in an unincorporated area of Oswego Township near Montgomery, said Kendall County Det. Bryan Harl.

Members of the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force helped with Browning’s arrest, which took place Monday at his home without incident, according to the sheriff’s office. The office of Kendall County State’s Attorney Eric Weis approved the charges on Sept. 1 following an investigation by Kendall County detectives, who received a report in December about the alleged assault, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

A 17-year-old said she had been sexually assaulted by an acquaintance when she was 12 and he was 21, according to the sheriff’s office.

Browning remains in the county jail, where he was booked following his arrest Monday. A warrant set his bail at $500,000 with 10 percent to apply for bond, though available court records indicate Kendall County Judge Timothy J. McCann set it to $100,000 on Tuesday.

The county public defender assigned to represent Browning could not be reached.

Court records for Kane and Kendall counties show his past convictions include retail theft and marijuana possession, both misdemeanors.
