A man on the Southwest Side tried to lure a woman using candy Sunday morning, then grabbed her and put a cloth over her mouth, but was thwarted when her dog bit him, Chicago police said.
The 23-year-old woman was walking her dog in the 4300 block of West Ford City Drive in the Ford City neighborhood around 9:30 a.m. when a man tried to strike up a conversation with her, according to police.

The man offered the woman candy, and as she walked away, he grabbed her and placed a white cloth over her mouth, according to a police crime alert.
The woman’s dog bit the man, allowing her to escape, police said. He fled through a parking lot on 76th Street in a white van without a license plate.
The suspect is described as an Asian man, possibly of Indian origin, around 50 years old with dark brown hair, about 5-foot-5 and about 150 pounds. The man spoke with a heavy accent, police said. He was last seen wearing a black jacket with red sleeves, brown khaki pants, a brown plaid shirt and black dress shoes.
