Yonathan M. Contreras Chapa, 36, of the 900 block of Lakewood Drive, Bartlett, was driving a 2003 Acura TL westbound on Scott Road about 3:25 p.m. Saturday when it ran a stop sign at the intersection with Harter Road and collided with a northbound 2000 Chevrolet Venture, according to the sheriff’s office. Harter Road traffic does not face a stop sign at the intersection.
Chapa was pronounced dead at the scene. His front-seat passenger, a 29-year-old Bartlett woman, was taken to Presence Mercy Medical Center with apparently non-life-threatening injuries, while her 3-year-old daughter, who had been in a child seat in the back seat of the car, was taken to Presence Mercy and then flown to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
The Chevy driver and passenger, a 55-year-old Aurora man and 60-year-old Aurora woman, were taken to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva with injuries that do not appear life-threatening, officials said.
No citations have been issued and the sheriff’s office said they have not determined whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, which is still under investigation.
