New York City FC have signed Slovenian defender Andraz Struna, as confirmed on the team’s website, pending the receipt of his visa.

“For me, it’s a great pleasure to sign here for New York City FC,” said Struna. “There are many reasons why I’m glad to be here, such as the club having a solid foundation and giving me the opportunity to work with great experts.”

Struna, 28, joins NYCFC as a free agent, last playing for Scottish side Hearts, and accumulating 13 appearance and one goal last season. He has also featured 25 times for the Slovenian national team.

“We’re entering a really important stretch of the season and I’m pleased that we were able to bring in Andraz at this stage to strengthen our squad,” said manager Patrick Vieira.

“Andraz is an experienced international defender, I’m looking forward to working with him on the training field.”
