Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Mary Claire Seeberg just started teaching math at Northbrook Junior High School, which she also attended as a kid. She recently graduated from Marquette University, where her little brother Mark is on his way to a business degree. She grew up in Northbrook, and played on the basketball teams in junior high and at Glenbrook North.

Q: As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A: I think I wanted to be a lot of different things, a teacher, or a professional basketball player for a while. And a mom. Hopefully I’ll get two out of three.

Q: What was your first job?

A: Lifeguard at Skokie Country Club. (Glencoe, at 16)

Q: Do you have any pets?

A: I have a dog and I have a fish, a beta fish named Anthony Rizzo, after the baseball player.

Q: What’s your favorite restaurant?

A: The Valley Lodge in Glenview (2132 Waukegan Road). It’s just where we always go. If someone asks, do you want to go out to dinner, I know it’s the Valley Lodge, just like going to the store means Sunset.

Q: If you could be on any reality show, which one would it be?

A: I would be on one of those house flipping shows on HDTV. My go-to.

Q: Tell me something about yourself that most people don’t know.

A: When I was in college, I studied in Spain, and lived with a family there. Very interesting to live outside your own home; I was kind of adopted for a few months.

Q: If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?

A: I would go to Ireland. It’s been on my bucket list for awhile. I’m a little Irish myself, and it would be cool to reconnect there.

Q: Do you have any pet peeves?

A: When you get stuck behind a slow walker, and you can’t get around them.

Q: What’s your favorite charity?

A: My family is very involved with Christ the King (Jesuit College Preparatory School). We go to a fundraiser every year. It’s a high school for a high-need area, (which provides) not only a quality education, but students can get an internship with a company, to try to bridge school and a career.

Q: Do you have any words of wisdom?

A: As cheesy as it is, be your genuine self and good things will happen.
