In a coup for Chicago, the State Department has selected the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Chicago to serve as co-commissioners of the U.S. pavilion at the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale.

The institutions will be responsible for organizing the official U.S. contribution to the prestigious international architecture show. The biennale’s 16th edition is scheduled to to run from May 26 through Nov. 25, 2018.

The curators will be Niall Atkinson, associate professor of architectural history at the University of Chicago; Ann Lui, assistant professor at the School of the Art Institute; and Mimi Zeiger, an independent critic and curator based in Los Angeles.

They proposed an exhibition titled “Dimensions of Citizenship.”

The Venice Architecture Biennale is exhibited in even-numbered years while the Chicago Architecture Biennial appears in odd-numbered years. The Chicago event opens to the public Sept. 16.
