Kyle Schwarber won’t be watching the hotly anticipated Ohio State-Indiana game Thursday night. He has a game to play.

But if he could tune in?

“I’d be torn,” he said. “I’m an Ohio guy at heart. I cheered for Ohio State growing up but went to Indiana.”

The Cubs outfielder said Monday that he knows Urban Meyer “really well” and keeps a football autographed by the Buckeyes coach.

When Ohio State and Indiana clashed in 2012, Schwarber rooted for the Hoosiers because Ohio State was bowl-ineligible from NCAA sanctions. Final score: Ohio State 52, Indiana 49.

Indiana’s coach was Kevin Wilson. Now he’s starting his first season as Ohio State’s offensive coordinator.

“I thought Kevin was great,” Schwarber said. “He had a really high-powered offense. Obviously it’s not the easiest school to recruit to but they always played the top teams really well. I wish the best for him moving on to Ohio State.”

Schwarber was a stud linebacker at Middletown High School in Ohio. His last game was a 21-0 playoff loss to Wayne (Huber Heights), which featured future Buckeyes All-Big Ten quarterback Braxton Miller.

Miller took a friendly jab on social media in 2015, displaying a photo of Schwarber coming up empty on a diving tackle attempt.

“The day I made Kyle Schwarber choose baseball,” Miller wrote. “Still has that #WorldSeries Attitude!”
