When asked which side of the ball he prefers — or which one might lead to a college opportunity — Rolling Meadows senior defensive end and left tackle Andrew Neville had to pause for a bit before answering.
“I just like being on the field as much as possible. I’m always really amped to get more playing time and to contribute to the team as much as possible,” Neville said. “With either position, it’s about bringing the pop and energy. But, if it came to it, I feel a little more comfortable on offense.”
At 6-foot-4 and 260 pounds, he certainly has the size for both. Talent-wise, it’s hard for Neville to differentiate between the two positions. He demonstrated his prowess for both in the Mustangs’ 23-19 loss to visiting St. Viator on Friday. Neville recorded 11 tackles and several quarterback hurries while also keeping Mustangs junior quarterback Arek Kleniuk protected throughout the game.
“I don’t anticipate him coming off the field much,” Rolling Meadows coach Matt Mishler said. “Andrew’s motor is fantastic and he’s a phenomenal leader.”

Kleniuk said he felt confident with Neville blocking for him and noted how much he appreciates that Neville has always believed in him.
Neville has been a two-year starter on the offensive line for Rolling Meadows, and last season he was a reserve on defense. Neville said that he was tired and cramped up a little bit during the St. Viator game, but “now I know what to expect and I’ll be ready.”
Besides his ability to handle multiple assignments on the football field, Neville also participates as a three-sport athlete. He’s a center on the Mustangs basketball team and throws the shot put and discus in track and field. He credited those sports for helping him with his footwork and strength in football.
Whether it’s hurrying the opposing quarterback and stopping the run or protecting his quarterback and opening holes for the backs, Neville said he’s looking forward to playing at the next level.
