A 17-year-old boy fatally shot himself Tuesday afternoon in a home that houses a child day care, authorities said.
The teen was shot around 12:50 p.m. in the 6500 block of South Oakley Avenue, according to chief police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi. He was dead at the scene.

Police said it was a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The medical examiner’s office later identified him a 17-year-old boy who lived on the same block where he was shot.
A family member at the home confirmed the shooting of a relative, saying through tears, “my little brother killed himself.”
It wasn’t clear whether any children were in the home at the time. As an ambulance idled, no other children were seen in or near the home, where a sign in the window read, “Precious Steps Childcare.”
