Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

If you’re anything like me, you run solely so you can gorge yourself on doughnuts afterward and not feel quite so guilty. Stan’s Donuts is embracing this idea with its Donut Dash 5K on Saturday, Aug. 12.

This goes beyond just post-gaming your run with a doughnut—the glorious fried and glazed treats will be available throughout the course and at the end of the race—so runners can celebrate making it all the way to the finish line on a doughnut-full stomach.

The cost to register is $40 for the 5K—kicking off at 8 a.m.—or $10 for the kids’ dash, which starts at 9:30 a.m. Day-of race registration will be available on-site from 6:30-7:45 a.m. at Montrose Harbor.

Packet pick-up is available noon-8 p.m Thursday, Aug. 10, and Friday, Aug. 11, at Fleet Feet Old Town (1620 N. Wells St. 312-587-3338).

Proceeds from the race will benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository, an organization that provides food for Chicagoans in need. The depository distributed 70 million pounds of food in 2016 and distributes the equivalence of 160,000 meals per day through its 700 partner agencies and programs throughout Cook County.

The race kicks off from the southeast corner of Montrose Harbor and makes its way north toward Foster Beach, where runners and walkers can make a doughnut pit stop before continuing toward another doughnut break at the mile-two marker. Are those enough doughnuts to get you to lace up your sneakers?

Don’t worry—there are just as many water stations are there are doughnut stations, so you’ll stay well-hydrated through your sugar high.
