An ordinance allowing beer and wine sales at the Stuart Sports Complex in Montgomery has been put on hold.

The measure being reviewed by the Montgomery Village Board would allow the village to create a class Q liquor license that would allow sale of beer and wine from concession stands and from carts at the Fox Valley Park District facility.

Trustee Stan Bond said the item was being put on hold as the board wanted clarification on the issue.

“The question was raised how many beverages could be sold to a person at a time,” he said. “It was unspecified in the request and it was a new license so we never really addressed that before. I think the sentiment was two beverages a person was enough, and that is apparently what the Park District said was on their mind too.”

If passed, the ordinance would take effect Jan. 1, 2018. Village Attorney Laura Julien said the measure would prohibit the sale of packaged liquor.

The Fox Valley Park District said the sales would be from concession stands and mobile carts. The alcohol would be served in single-serving plastic cups or cans, not glass containers.

The Stuart Sports Complex is home to a number of athletic contests a year that bring with them an estimated 100,000 spectators, village officials said. The addition of alcohol service could bring more tournaments to the facility, officials said.
