1) Never underestimate the chance that a business will take advantage of a fake food holiday. Chicago’s own Eli’s Cheesecake is taking National Cheesecake Day into its own hands by throwing an entire festival around the dessert. Live music, a classic car show and dance performances are mere garnish for the festival, which will benefit New Horizon Center for the Developmentally Disabled. Come for the free cheesecake samples, stay for the cheesecake bingo, hula hoop contest, and even hockey with a cheesecake puck. Free admission. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at 6701 W. Forest Preserve Drive, 800-354-2253, www.cheesecakefestival.com

2) The Southeast Chicago Chamber of Commerce is challenging the public to rethink how we see communities with XSite, an interactive outdoor celebration of food, art and music. Muralists Rahmaan Statik and Max Sansing will transform a 14,000-square-foot lot with a live mural painting on exposed walls, while food from Big Mama’s Kitchen, I94 BarBQue, Ooh Wee Sweet Tea and more will be on sale. Local small businesses provide a yoga class, a silent dance party, giant yard games and free massages. Free admission. 6-11 p.m. Friday at 9020 S. Stony Island, www.scccxsite.com

3) What do you know about German wine beyond those blue bottles of sticky-sweet riesling?
