A 26-year-old Aurora man has been charged with robbing a 56-year-old woman who was sitting inside her parked car in Aurora.

Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli said the incident occurred around 4:40 a.m. July 21 in the 800 block of LaFayette Street, where the woman was parked.

According to Ferrelli, a dark-colored sedan stopped near the woman’s car and a man got out of his vehicle and demanded the woman’s valuables at gunpoint.

Police said the woman complied and handed over her valuables, at which time the man got back into the sedan and drove away.

A short time later, the woman reported hearing a crash in the area. Police were also called about a dark-colored sedan that had crashed into an unoccupied pickup truck that was parked in the 700 block of Lebanon Street.

Ferrelli said responding officers were able to locate three men in the area and the group was detained for questioning. Following the interviews, police said they were able to tie Dakota Irvin, 26, 500 block of North Edgelawn Drive, to the robbery. He was charged with armed robbery and robbery.

The gun was not located, however, some of the proceeds from the robbery were found in a yard in the 700 block of Lebanon Street where the car was found crashed, Ferrelli said.

The two other detained men, Demetrius Jackson, 25, and David Adams, 23, both of the 1300 block of Pearl Street in Aurora, were both charged with resisting police.
