A Lake Villa man pleaded not guilty Thursday to drug-induced homicide charges involving the March overdose of a woman in Gurnee.
Glenn E. Trauthwein, 35, pleaded not guilty to charges of drug induced-homicide and unlawful delivery of a controlled substance related to the death of Colleen J. Todorovic, 33.
Members of the Lake County Sheriff’s Gang Task Force arrested Trauthwein June 17 following an investigation into Todorovic’s death.
She was found unresponsive by sheriff’s deputies March 3 in the 18700 block of West Highfield Drive.
According to authorities, deputies arrived and found Todorovic unconscious and not breathing. After deputies determined Todorovic was likely suffering an opioid overdose, they administered the opiate antidote Naloxone, while attempting life-saving measures, but the effort was unsuccessful.
Assistant State’s Attorney Reginald Mathews said Todorovic ingested heroin with others the night on March 2 in the residence, where she was found dead the next morning.
Members of the Gang Task Force began a long-term investigation that concluded Trauthwein was responsible for supplying heroin to Todorovic, and that the heroin ultimately led to Todorovic’s death, according to sheriff’s officials.
Mathews said Trauthwein is believed to have purchased the heroin used by the group in Chicago earlier in the day March 2.
Trauthwein is being held in Lake County Jail with bail set at $750,000.
Mathews said Trauthwein’s next court status date is Aug. 28, and a trial date of Oct. 30 has been set.
