An Elgin man held off an Elgin police SWAT team for several hours Wednesday after officers removed a 16-year-old girl he attempted to molest from the Asbury Court home, according to court records.

Jon Fischer, 67, of Asbury Court, was charged Thursday in Cook County Circuit Court with attempted aggravated criminal sexual assault, aggravated battery and unlawful restraint following the incident.

Assistant state’s attorney Alyssa Grissom said Fischer entered the girl’s bedroom about 9 a.m. while she was sleeping and put a plastic zip tie around her wrist. He then tried to force the girl over onto her stomach and place another zip tie on her other wrist, but the girl fought back, Grissom said.

Fischer began slapping and punching the girl and forced himself on top of her, Grissom said. The girl bit Fischer in the arm and while he was distracted, she was able to dial 911 on her cell phone and conceal the phone, while leaving the call open, Grissom said.

Fischer told the girl he would commit suicide and she was able to calm him down before police arrived, Grissom said. Elgin police officers forced their way into the residence and removed the girl after dispatchers were able to trace the location, she said.

Fischer then barricaded himself in the residence with a loaded firearm for three hours until a friend convinced him to surrender, Grissom said.

Elgin police closed off streets in and around the 1200 block of Asbury Court as police responded at 8:25 a.m. Wednesday, Elgin police Cmdr. Ana Lalley said.

Elgin police in the neighborhood, including some in tactical-response vehicles, blocked off access several blocks away, according to police.

Bond for Fischer was set at $3 million.
