The man, 46, initially was in serious condition at Stroger Hospital following the attack about 5:15 p.m. Monday in the 1200 block of South Canal Street, said Officer Michael Carroll, a police spokesman.

The man was beaten with board until he was unconscious, police said. The robbers then went through his pockets.

Two suspects were arrested soon after the attack, and charges were being sought, Carroll said.
