A Lake Bluff woman woke early July 11 to find a man burglarizing her home.
Lake Bluff Police received a 911 call at 4:49 a.m. that a man was in the home of a woman on the 800 block of Carlyle Circle, according to a police news release.
“There was an open window and a sliding door had been left open and unlocked,” said Police Chief David Belmonte.
The homeowner woke to discover the man in her house before he fled through a rear door. He got into a red Mitsubishi Mirage with Wisconsin license plates and then sped out of the area, police said. The vehicle was last seen going north on Green Bay Road in North Chicago.
The burglar got away with under $100, Belmonte said. Nothing else appears to have been stolen, he said.
“We did get a license plate number and are following up with officials in Wisconsin,” Belmonte said.
Such burglaries are unusual in Lake Bluff, Belmonte said.
“This is very rare,” Belmonte said. “It’s not something we see often at all.”
