Aurora police are reminding people to lock their cars after burglars entered 18 unlocked cars in recent weeks.

Since June 25, vehicle burglaries were reported all across the city, police said in a Facebook post. In addition to the 18 that were definitely unlocked, three others may also have been left unsecured, police said.

Police said they think many of the burglaries have been committed by the same person or people, noting the proximity and time frames of some of the break-ins.

However, police said, most of the reports lack suspect descriptions, and the descriptions they do have are vague.

“Please remember that you spoil a thief’s day when you lock your vehicles and take anything of value with you or stash it out of plain site,” police said on Facebook. “It is also very important to call 911 immediately if you see any suspicious behavior or people in your neighborhood.”

Four of the burglaries were reported between June 29 and July 5 in the downtown area.

Six vehicles were entered during various times between July 3 and 5 in the Fox Croft and Golden Oaks area, police said.

Four vehicles were broken into or vandalized along the Lake Street business corridor, and two other burglaries occurred on the West Side, police said.

Three burglaries were reported on the Near Southeast Side; three vehicles were broken into on the East Side; and three on the Far East Side, according to police.

Police are asking anyone with information on any burglaries to call investigators at 630-256-2500.
