Running sucks. There, I said it. But add some neon glow sticks and a good cause and it becomes—at least marginally—less sucky.

That’s the premise of The GloRun. A nighttime five kilometer run-walk starting at Soldier Field, Chicago’s GloRun starts at 8:55 p.m. on Saturday, July 15.
This year, a portion of funds raised will benefit Back on My Feet Chicago, the local chapter of a national organization that works with homeless communities to foster personal growth through physical fitness coaching, as well as financial aid, job training and access to employment opportunities.
The GloRun has raised more than $100,000 in the past with an option for participants to donate as they register. Registration for the event comes in two forms: a fun run for those who just want to party in their workout gear for roughly three miles, and a timed run for the serious types looking to up the ante of their typical workout with loud music and flashing lights.
The course, which starts and ends on Soldier Field, features five sections of “neon luau-themed zones” as well as photo-ops so you can prove to your friends that you did, indeed, get off the couch.
Though the race is open to all ages, the course might not be a great idea for the young ones—and strollers are strongly discouraged due to the uneven terrain the race covers. For the 21-and-up crowd, Lagunitas will be on-site giving away one complimentary brew per runner upon finishing the course. Following the race, DJ sets will round out the night while the neon track transforms into a neon dance party—without needing to head to River North.
Registration is open now at theglorun.com/chicago. Prices are $60 per person to participate, with an additional $6.99 to include a timed chip. Late registration will be available until 8:25 p.m. on race day, though prices to register will increase.
