Part of North Western Avenue in Lake Forest is closed to daytime traffic.
The portion of Western Avenue from East Laurel Avenue to Franklin Place East closed July 10 due to workconnected to the Kelmscott Park residential development, formerly referred to as the Laurel and Western development. It will remain closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for about 10 days.
A new storm sewer will be installed in the middle of the street, said Cathy Czerniak, director of community development for Lake Forest. Diagonal parking will be added to the east side of Western Avenue and both the sanitary sewer line and water main will be extended.
“We’re trying to get the heavy work, which requires closure of the street, done before school starts,” Czerniak said. “Ultimately, there will be new sidewalks and landscaping.”
The road will be open in the evenings and overnight. The city requested that Focus Development, the developer of Kelmscott Park, keep a pedestrian path along Western Avenue open throughout the project, Czerniak said.
