On the last day of the long Fourth of July weekend, Chicago police on Tuesday announced the arrests of 58 people across the city on gun and drug charges.
Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said several guns were seized as well as 1,200 grams of cannabis and 500 grams of heroin and crack cocaine.
“CPD officers are working on the streets in force to keep residents and visitors safe in every neighborhood,” he said.
As of 2 p.m. Tuesday, at least 59 people had been shot in Chicago since the start of the holiday weekend Friday afternoon. Seven of them have been killed, according to data kept by the Tribune.
In the latest shootings, a woman and two men were injured.
The woman walked into Norwegian American Hospital Tuesday morning and said she had been shot in the right hand while walking in Logan Square, according to police.
The woman, 26, told hospital staff she was shot in the 1600 block of North Sawyer Avenue around 5 a.m., police said.
The woman was treated and released before police arrived to talk to her. Officers were unable to find a crime scene on the block and there were no calls about shots fired there, police said.
The men were shot in the West Pullman neighborhood in the 100 block of West 118th Street Tuesday afternoon, according to a media alert.
The 20-year-old man was shot in his armpit and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where his condition has stabilized, officials said.
Police are unsure of where the other man, 18, was shot on his body, but he was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn as well, according to police.
