Services are planned June 16 and June 17 for a Dolton firefighter who recently died in the line of duty.
Visitation services will be held for Lawrence Matthews Jr. from 6 to 9 p.m. June 16 at Leak & Sons Funeral Home, 18400 S. Pulaski Road in Country Club Hills.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. June 17 at Harvey’s Holy Temple Cathedral, 15912 Lincoln Ave. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m.
A burial will follow the funeral June 17 at Washington Memory Gardens, 701 Ridge Road, Homewood.
Matthews was pronounced dead at 3:15 p.m. June 10 at Ingalls Memorial Hospital after he collapsed and entered cardiac arrest while responding to a fire in Harvey.
Family members remembered the firefighter as a “hero,” while Dolton Mayor Riley H. Rogers described Matthews as “a man committed to saving the lives of others.”
The cause of his death is unknown.
