Police are looking for a man suspected of robbing a St. Charles bank at gunpoint Tuesday afternoon.
St. Charles police officers were dispatched at 12:37 p.m. Tuesday for an armed robbery at Harris Bank on the 300 block of South Randall Road, according to a news release from Deputy Chief Dave Kintz.
While both customers and employees were inside the bank, a man went in, displayed a black handgun and demanded money, ultimately getting away with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.
In one surveillance photo police released Tuesday afternoon, a male figure wearing a royal blue baseball cap stands in between the bank doors and a teller’s counter, holding a gun in his right hand and pointing it to the camera’s left. A teller is sitting behind the counter, while another person is standing to the gunman’s left. Another photo shows the suspect outside the building’s front vestibule, his face covered by a blue bandana with a white pattern.
Police described the suspect as male, about 5 feet 6 inches tall with a thin build.
No injuries were reported and Kintz said in an email that no customers were robbed. Kintz said he’d been unable to get a solid count of how many people were inside and couldn’t yet confirm information about any get-away vehicle.
The bank did not have any of its own security officers working, he said.
The local police department is working with the FBI, which also responded to the scene and is the lead agency on the case, police said.
BMO Harris Bank spokesman Patrick O’Herlihy said in an email that he could confirm an “attempted robbery” took place Tuesday afternoon at the St. Charles location.
“All customers and employees are safe,” O’Herlihy said.
No customer information was compromised, he said. The branch was closed for the rest of the day Tuesday, but should reopen Wednesday morning, O’Herlihy said, referring any other questions to local authorities.
Police are asking anyone with information to call the FBI Chicago Office at 312-421-6700 or St. Charles Police investigators at 630-377-4435.
