Shootings the first night of the long Memorial Day weekend left at least four people wounded, according to Chicago police.
The first shooting happened in the 1800 block of West 87th Street about 7:15 p.m. Friday. The 18-year-old man shot there walked into Little Company of Mary Hospital seeking treatment for a gunshot wound to his left hand, police said. He told police he heard shots and felt pain.
A 32-year-old man was shot in the forearm in the 1200 block of West 79th Street in the Gresham neighborhood about 2:10 a.m. Saturday. The man was sitting in a vehicle when another car pulled up alongside him and fired shots. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
Across the street from St. Sabina Church, a symbol of nonviolence in the city, Chicago police roped off a parking lot as they investigated.
The officers talked to a woman inside the crime scene tape.
Two men were shot in the Little Village neighborhood about 2:30 a.m., police said. The two told police they were dropping off a friend on 21st Place, near where it dead-ends against Marshall Boulevard, when someone shot them. They fled, and police found them in a grassy area next to train tracks on Marshall. The 26-year-old was shot in the shoulder and the 18-year-old grazed in the shoulder. Both were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.
