A Batavia man has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs after police said he was found unconscious in a car in a ditch in Aurora.

Matthew Arnold, 23, 700 block of Maves Drive, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs at 2:08 a.m. Thursday at Presence Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, Aurora police said.

According to police, officers responded to the area of Butterfield Road and South Raddant Road around 10:03 p.m. for reports of a car off the roadway with a slumped driver inside.

Police said they arrived and found Arnold’s vehicle in a ditch. He was unconscious, but breathing. Paramedics were called and Arnold was taken to the hospital.

Police said they found numerous used syringes inside the vehicle, including one on the driver’s seat. Officers also said they found “dozens of opened pill capsules throughout the vehicle,” according to police reports.

Three filled capsules, which tested positive for codeine, were located in an ashtray, police said.
