Two people face charges after allegedly fleeing police following several crimes that occurred in Glencoe, Wilmette and Winnetka, according to public safety officials in the three villages.
Winnetka Deputy Police Chief Marc Hornstein said a car was stolen overnight between May 7 and May 8 from the 1300 block of Asbury Avenue in Winnetka, and Winnetka police received reports of other vehicle burglaries in the same time period.
Meanwhile, a Glencoe resident notified that village’s Public Safety Department on May 9 that someone had tried to gain entry through an open window at his or her home, according to a statement from the department.
Glencoe officers discovered that items had been stolen from the resident’s home and determined that two homes and six vehicles in an area bordered by Green Bay Road, Grove Street, Jefferson Avenue and Adams Avenue in Glencoe had been burglarized, it said.
Then, while the original burglary was being investigated, a suspicious vehicle was seen leaving the area, according to the Glencoe statement.
Hornstein said a Winnetka officer enroute to Glencoe to assist in the investigation saw a vehicle near Greenwood and Asbury Avenues in Winnetka – in the same vicinity as where a car had been stolen the night before – committing multiple traffic violations.
The officer followed the car and tried to stop it on Hibbard Road, but the car headed south on Hibbard and eventually ended up in Wilmette, he said.
Wilmette police said in a statement that the car entered Wilmette, and two individuals allegedly fled from it in the 800 block of Hibbard, and the car subsequently crashed into a tree. Police from Wilmette, Winnetka, Kenilworth and Northfield set up a perimeter and eventually apprehended the two individuals, according to the statement.
In connection to the incident, Lorenzo Wimberly, 22, of the 1700 block of Golf Road, Waukegan, faces four felony charges from Winnetka including unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle; aggravated unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle; aggravated fleeing and eluding; and burglary to a motor vehicle, according to Hornstein.
In Glencoe, Wimberly faces residential burglary and vehicle burglary charges, according to the Glencoe Public Safety Department.
Also charged is Taylor Davis-Starling, 20, of the 2500 block of Victor Avenue, Glenview, who faces a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession in Winnetka and residential burglary and vehicle burglary charges in Glencoe, police said.
Wimberly has a $100,000 bond and a scheduled court date of June 6, and Davis-Starling has a $50,000 bond and a scheduled court date of June 13, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.
