1) Visit this food truck fest

Enjoy Lincoln Park Zoo after-hours while snacking on bites from some of the city’s best food trucks. The zoo’s Food Truck Social hosts trucks including La Cocinita, Harold’s Chicken, Happy Lobster, Boo Coo Roux, Beavers Donuts and many more, from pierogi trucks to pizza trucks. Drinks will be available for purchase, plus there are activities to keep little ones busy. $10 admission; truck food priced a la carte. 6:30-9:30 p.m. Saturday at Lincoln Park Zoo, 2400 N. Cannon Drive, www.lpzoo.org/food-truck-social

2) Drink with a wine writer

Welcome new Hyde Park wine shop 57th Street Wines to the neighborhood with a toast and wine tasting at its first author event. Bianca Bosker, author of “Cork Dork: A Wine-Fueled Adventure Among The Obsessive Sommeliers, Big Bottle Hunters, and Rogue Scientists Who Taught Me to Live for Taste,” will lead a Q&A about her adventures in the wine world, plus conduct a tasting of wine inspired by her tales. Purchasing Bosker’s book also nets 5 percent off any wine purchased at the event. Free to attend. 7 p.m. Friday at 57th Street Wines, 1448 E. 57th St., 773-966-4883, www.wines57.com

3) Eat tacos for breakfast

River North’s Tallboy Taco is the latest to add morning offerings, just in time for the height of alfresco season. The new Saturday brunch includes tacos with steak and eggs or brisket and eggs, but also dishes like chilaquiles and huevos rancheros. Keep an eye out for the old-fashioned-style churro doughnuts. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays at Tallboy Taco, 325 W. Huron St., 312-488-4917, www.tallboytaco.com

4) Shop for mom at Dose Market …

Popular (and family-friendly) Dose Market is back with a weekend event dedicated to moms. About 80 local artists, makers, bakers and more have items for sale; our favorites include boozy cupcakes from The Drunken Cherry and chocolate from Renee’s Raw Chocolate. Twenty-five percent of ticket proceeds benefit local charity New Moms, which provides aid to single mothers and their children. $10. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Morgan Manufacturing, 401 N. Morgan St., www.dosemarket.com

5) … or take her to a cooking class

Mother’s Day brunch is so cliche. Treat mom to a night out with a hands-on cooking class at Lincoln Park’s Read It and Eat. Chef Christy Meyer will lead the class through party-friendly apps, like fig, blue cheese and prosciutto crostini; garlic shrimp; and a dramatic apple and pear tarte tatin. Along the way, students will learn knife skills, sauce tips and baking hacks. $85. 6:30-9 p.m. Friday at Read It and Eat, 2142 N. Halsted St., 773-661-6158, www.readitandeatstore.com
