The weekend shooting death of a Park Forest man is being looked at as an isolated incident, University Park police said.
Rodney Reed, 25, was shot several times while sitting in a vehicle parked in a residential block of Hickok Avenue in University Park, police Chief John Pate said.
Reed was pronounced dead Saturday morning at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
He died of multiple gunshot wounds, and his death has been ruled a homicide.
Investigators processed the scene of the shooting over the weekend, Pate said. Detectives await the results of forensic analysis of evidence.
Police do not yet have a suspect but are following multiple leads, he said.
No one has come forward saying they witnessed Reed’s homicide or have information about it, Pate said.
“The people we spoke to … say they heard the shots, but didn’t see it occur,” he said.
This is the first murder in the university town in at least two years, Pate said. Governors State University is in University Park.
Reed was born and raised in University Park, but was living in Park Forest at the time of his death, Pate said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call University Park police at 708-235-4803, or go to the police station.
