A 54-year-old Norridge woman was charged with attempted murder last week after she allegedly stabbed her husband in the face while he was sleeping, according to Norridge police officials.
Gloria Martinez, of the 4100 block of North Ozark Avenue, was charged April 24 with attempted murder, aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery and domestic battery, said Norridge Police Detective Zachary Zage. Police spokesman Charles Tortorello said Martinez remains in custody at the Cook County Jail as of Tuesday and is being held on $750,000 bond.
Zage said police responded to Martinez’s residence just before 10 a.m. April 24 after receiving a report of a domestic incident at the home. When officers arrived, Zage said police witnessed Martinez and her 58-year-old husband engaged in a physical altercation. Zage said Martinez told police she attacked her husband with a knife.
Her husband was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital after suffering a stab wound to his face and other injuries, Zage said. Martinez was arrested, and a knife was recovered from the scene, Zage said.
Detectives interviewed the man at the hospital, as well as a family member who witnessed the incident, Tortorello said. In addition to allegedly stabbing her husband while he was asleep, police allege that Martinez also hit him with a dumbbell. Tortorello said the couple has a history of “domestic problems” and that police have been called to their home multiple times.
“They are in process of divorce but still cohabiting together,” Tortorello said.
Police said Martinez has no prior criminal history. She is next due in court May 11 at 1:30 p.m. in Rolling Meadows.
