The Hampshire Firefighters Association recently purchased a King Vision video laryngoscope with money from its memorial fund.
The intubation tube is used when people are experiencing compromised airways, said Sheri Stadie, Hampshire Fire Department emergency medical services coordinator. The tube is placed inside the trachea and a bag is attached. The camera verifies that air is going to the lungs instead of to the stomach. The equipment protects a person’s airway and breathes for them.

“The memorial fund is supported through donations,” Stadie said. “The Ahle family and the Oranger family were big contributors toward the purchase of this equipment. The unit came with a camera and four blades. Our resource hospital, Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, will provide replacement blades.”
The device was introduced to the Hampshire Firefighters Association by the East Dundee Fire Department, Stadie said.
